# Custom Domains

Use your own domain to speed up email trust, and to show forms at an address like
`forms.example.com`. Each part is separate, so do only the one you need.

Workspace owners and admins manage domains, under **Domains**.

## Verify A Domain

Verifying proves your workspace controls a domain. After that, senders and recipients on
it are trusted without a confirmation email, including ones that were waiting.

1. Add the domain, such as `example.com`.
2. At your DNS provider, add the TXT record the page shows.
3. Choose **Check DNS**.

DNS changes can take a while to appear. Check again later if it isn't found yet.

## Serve Forms On Your Hostname

This needs a plan that includes custom hostnames. The Free plan doesn't. See
[Plans And Limits](/guides/plans-and-limits/).

1. Under your domain, add a host, such as `forms`.
2. At your DNS provider, add the CNAME record the page shows.
3. If you haven't verified the parent domain, also add the TXT record shown for the
   hostname.
4. Choose **Check DNS**. Formerie then sets up HTTPS for you, and the host turns active.
5. On your form, choose the host when you publish.

## If A Hostname Is Taken

| Message | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Reserved in another workspace | Add the TXT record shown, then add the hostname again |
| Under a domain verified by another workspace | Ask that workspace to add it, or to remove its domain |
| Reserved by Formerie | Use a hostname on your own domain |

A hostname that was never verified can be claimed by another workspace after 14 days.

## Stop Using A Domain

Disable a host to stop its traffic. To set a domain aside, archive it or move it to the
trash, and restore it whenever you want. You can delete it permanently from the trash once
no form uses it.
