# Confirmation emails

Let people know their response arrived. A confirmation email goes to the person who filled in
your form, in your words, and from your sender. It's off until you turn it on, form by form.

## Turn it on

1. Your form needs an email field, and human verification set to required. Publish it. See
   [Human verification](/guides/spam-protection/#human-verification).
2. Open the form's **Delivery** tab and find **Confirmation email**.
3. Choose the field that holds the person's address, and write your message, or keep the wording
   shown.
4. Choose **Preview** to read it as they will, then check **Send a confirmation email** and save.

It works from the next submission, with no publish.

If something is missing, the page lists it under **Before this can send**.

## What it says

You write a subject and a message, in plain text. Links, web addresses, email addresses and HTML
aren't accepted, because anyone can type any address into a form, so the reader may be a stranger.
Keep it to something like "We answer within two days."

**It never repeats their answers**, not even a first name. If it did, someone could type a message
and another person's address, and have your form deliver it for them.

Formerie adds a short footer you can't remove. It names the form and the workspace, says the address
was entered in that form, and gives a way to stop these emails. There's no reply-to, so a message
sent through Formerie's email says no reply is needed, and a verified sender gets its own replies.

## French and English

The email follows the form's language, which you set in the form's settings. Any language other
than French gets the English wording.

Check **Send in French and English** for one email with both, starting with the form's language.
The subject shows both too.

## Who sends it

The form's own sender and provider, the same as your notifications. See
[Recipients and senders](/guides/recipients-and-senders/) and [Your own email provider](/guides/email-providers/).

On Formerie's email, the form needs Formerie's own Turnstile check. With your own provider, any
required human verification will do.

Confirmations sent through Formerie's email count as managed email on your plan. Those sent through
your own provider don't.

## Limits

These keep a form from being used to mail strangers. Past one, the submission is still stored and
still delivered to you. Only the confirmation is skipped.

| Limit | Free | Paid plans |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The same address, on one form, per day | 3 | 3 |
| The same address, across Formerie, per day | 10 | 10 |
| One form, per hour | 100 | 1,000 |
| One form, per day | 300 | 5,000 |
| One workspace, per day | 500 | 20,000 |
| One account, per month, on Formerie's email | 5,000 | No limit |

A person who chooses the stop link gets no more confirmations from any form on Formerie.

## See what happened

Each submission shows its confirmation next to its delivery: sent, failed, or not sent and why. The
**Confirmation email** section shows the last 30 days.

A confirmation that fails never changes the submission or its delivery to you. If some don't go out
because of a limit or a failure, the owner gets one email about it per form per day, with no address
in it.

## Test it

A test's confirmation only ever goes to you, whatever address was typed. It goes to the confirmed
login of whoever created the [try link or test key](/guides/test-your-form/), marked `[Test]`, and counts
as test email. Local and staging tests send nothing.

## Deleting a response

Deleting a submission removes its confirmation record. If the confirmation hadn't left yet, it
doesn't go. An email already sent can't be called back. See [Delete your data](/guides/delete-your-data/).
